2019-2020 CAFA Electives

ALL Electives take place on Tuesday afternoons after lunch.

Please note that Electives are contingent upon student interest

(see minimum).

 

Primary Art 12:40-1:40 p.m.

($200 annual fee)  K4-2nd grade (minimum 10)

These young students will explore their creative side while learning basic art techniques with lots of “hands-on” fun.

 

Secondary Art 2  1:45-2:45 p.m.

($200 annual fee)   3rd-6th graders (minimum 8)

Students will experience a more in-depth learning of art. They will explore various tools and techniques in several art genres.  Students will learn a wide variety of art techniques and media and create contest pieces. This class is for anyone who enjoys creating visual art.

 

Secondary Art 3  2:50-3:50 p.m.

($200 annual fee)   7th-12th graders (minimum 8)

Sewing & Costuming  12:40-1:40 p.m.

($200 annual fee)  6th-12th graders (maximum 5)

Students in this class should have a basic knowledge of both sewing by hand and using a sewing machine.   They will also have the opportunity to practice designing and working on costumes for our Theater Production Classes.

Sewing & Quilting  1:45-2:45 p.m.

($200 annual fee)  6th-12th graders (maximum 10)

In this class, students will learn basic sewing skills both sewing by hand and using a sewing machine.   They will also have the opportunity to collaborate on a group quilting project.  

 

Beginning Band  1:45-2:45 p.m.

($200 annual fee)  4th-12th graders (minimum 4)

Beginning Band is for those who are in the beginning stages of learning an instrument.  This will be a traditional band.  For those signing up for this elective, the instructor will have a wealth of information for you and will be happy to answer any questions.  Purchasing or renting an instrument will be required.

 

Percussion Band  2:50-3:50 p.m.

($200 annual fee)  4th-12th graders (maximum 10)

Percussion Band is for those who are interested in concentrating on a percussion instrument.  Purchasing or renting an instrument will be required.  Students must try out with Mrs. Anderson to be placed in this class.

 

Intermediate Band  12:40-1:40 p.m.

($200 annual fee)  4th-12th graders (minimum 4)

Intermediate Band is for those that have previously been in Beginner Band.  This, also, will be a traditional band.  Tryouts will be required to be placed in Intermediate Band.  Purchasing or renting an instrument will also be required.

 

Elementary Choir  1:45-2:45 p.m.

($200 annual fee)  K-5th graders (minimum 6)

Elementary Choir offers an opportunity for our elementary age students to learn the basic concepts of music theory and singing techniques.  They will be displaying their talents through performing the songs they have learned. 

 

Choir  12:40-1:40 p.m.

($200 annual fee)  6th-12th graders (minimum 6)

Choir offers an opportunity for our older students to learn the basic concepts of music theory and singing techniques, and grow in their knowledge of music and singing.  They will be displaying their talents through performing the songs they have learned. 

 

Musical Theater 2:50-3:50 p.m.

($200 annual fee)  6th-12th graders (maximum 25)

Musical Theater will let actors and musicians experience the stage with a performance of their own.  Students will need to have a lot of energy and creativity to put into this elective.  There is a higher level of commitment for this elective as Musical Theater students are required to commit to all rehearsals and performance dates when accepting a role in the production.

 

Elementary Theater 12:40-1:40 p.m.

($250 annual fee)  3rd-5th graders (maximum 20)

Elementary Theater gives young aspiring actors their first chance at experiencing the theater.  Learning theater basics and preparing performance pieces, students learn about memorizing lines, stage etiquette and positioning, while gaining confidence in presenting themselves before an audience.

 

Theater Production  1:45-2:45 p.m.

($250 annual fee)  6th-12th graders (maximum 22) THIS CLASS IS FULL

6th & 7th grade students may audition for placement in this elective.  See staff for date of auditions.

Students will have a more in-depth learning of the stage, make-up, costuming and performance.  This elective is for students with a flair for “dramatics” and will be quite fun and educational while honing their acting skills.  Members will be presenting the featured production at the end of the year.  There is a higher level of commitment for this elective as Theater Production students are required to commit to all rehearsals and performance dates when accepting a role in the production. 

Culinary Arts  12:40-1:40 p.m.

($200 annual fee)  5th-12th graders (minimum 6)

Culinary Arts students will not only learn the basics of cooking, food preparation and kitchen cleanliness; they will also enjoy learning how to decorate cupcakes, cookies and baked goods which will be served at out various CAFA productions and events.

Photography  1:45-2:45 p.m.

($200 annual fee)  7th-12th graders (maximum 6)

Photography students will have the opportunity to learn basic camera operation and how to take beautiful pictures. They will learn about lighting, editing, cropping and the artistic aspect of picture taking. Owning a camera is suggested but not required.

 

Yearbook & Advanced Photography  2:50-3:50 p.m.

($200 annual fee)  8th-12th graders (minimum 6) (maximum 8)

Yearbook students must be able to bring a laptop/tablet or digital camera to class. Student will learn how to work as a team to compile, design, edit and present media.  The class will collaborate and participate in both the design and editing of the CAFA yearbook.  Students will help take photos at CAFA events, interview people and type up stories on the computer, edit photos, and create/edit yearbook pages digitally.  The class will meet two additional times (two hour sessions) after the last official class and after graduation in order to complete the yearbook pages that cover those events. 

Makeup Artistry 2:50-3:50 p.m.

($200 annual fee)  7th-12th graders (minimum 6)

Students will learn the basics of skin care and makeup. They will learn different techniques of makeup application as it pertains to day-to-day wear, special occasions and the Theater. Students will use their knowledge to help our students as the perform in our various Theater Productions and skits.

T-shirt Design & Graphic Printing 12:40-1:40 p.m.

($200 annual fee)  7th-12th graders (maximum 10)

Students in this new class will have the opportunity to design and create t-shirts and the CAFA products. They will help design a special t-shirt for each CAFA Club and for our Theater performances. They will learn how to operate a Cricut Design machine and a heat press (with adult supervision).

 

Video Production 12:40-1:40 / 1:45-2:45 p.m.

($200 annual fee)  7th-12th graders (maximum 6)

Students will be able to experience the ins and outs of Video Production.  They will learn how to appropriately handle and work cameras, use editing software, and produce their own videos.  Students will also get to help in the video recording and producing of our many exciting CAFA productions.

 

Elementary Science Club 2:50-3:50 p.m.

($200 annual fee)  K-4th graders

New to CAFA this year, Elementary Science Club will allow our youngest students an opportunity to experience Science in a fun, hands-on way. They explore topics such as weather, gardening, nature and do tons of fun and beautiful experiments.

Child Care 

($150 annual fee)  K-5th graders

Whether your child has a break between electives or is waiting on a sibling, you can enroll them in our Child Care program.  You are always welcome to pick up your student or come sit with them if you choose.

 

Study Hall 

6th-12th graders

Our older students are also supervised between their electives.  They are encouraged to bring board games, cards or other group activities as cell phones and electronics are not permitted during this time.  There is no fee for Study Hall.
